The upgrade of the “Spyros Kyprianou” arena in Limassol is in full progress, ahead of the hosting of FIBA EuroBasket 2025 in our country, next summer.
Since August 2024, when the works started, among others, the planned demolitions have progressed, new necessary emergency exits from the arena towards the changing rooms were created, the old floor was removed along with other materials that will be replaced, while the upgrade works in the lockers rooms have also started. At the same time, the study period for the upcoming installations of modern materials will soon be completed, so that everything will be ready within the schedule that has been set. The stadium upgrade project has been assigned by the Public Works department to “A&A Apostolidis” company, through a public tender process.
The biggest sporting event Cyprus will ever host is FIBA EuroBasket 2025, which will be co-hosted by four countries, Cyprus, Latvia, Finland and Poland. The fifteen matches of Group C will be held in Limassol, with the participation of six countries. These are, the Cyprus National Team as hosts, the Greek National Team as cooperating federation, given that they qualify, an outcome expected to occur from the very next qualifying window, and four other countries that we will find out in March 2025 during the FIBA draw.
The ongoing projects at “Spyros Kyprianou” arena will transform the image of the Limassol stadium, offering the venue as a legacy for Cypriot sports, a modern indoor stadium with a new life horizon of several additional decades, with the possibility of hosting more major international events. The stadium was designed about 25 years ago and began its operation in 2005.
